The Karate Kid is back ladies and gentleman, but it is not what you expected it to be. Youtube Red has ordered 10 episodes of the new TV series Kobra Kai, a series based on the Karate Kid film which will star both original stars Ralph Macchio (Daniel Larusso) and William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence). It will be a comedy focused series, and take a bit of a different take according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Set more than 30 years after the original film aired in 1984, Kobra Kai will be set in present day. Johhny Lawrence isn’t doing too well in life, and has reopened the Kobra Kai dojo. His feud with Larusso starts up again, as Daniel struggled in life without Mr. Miyagi by his side. Each episode of the show will run for approximately 30 minutes and air exclusively on Youtube Red.
The original film released in 1984, and saw Larusso take out Lawrence with the classic crane kick us kids who grew up in the 80’s emulated day in and day out. It should be fun to see how this plays out, as both Macchio and Zabka are 55 and 51 years old respectively. They are not exactly spring chickens anymore, so any fight scene should be pretty hysterical.
No release date has been announced for the series, but it is expected to air sometime in 2018. I look forward to your puns in the comments. Let’s go, don’t let me down with this one. I know you can do it. Come on, sweep the leg.
