Every year at NYCC it seems that some sort of news gets broken. One year the creator Robert Kirkman confirmed that Negan will be making his debut. The following year he confirmed Ezekiel. This year, we have found out that a crossover between both The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead has been confirmed.
Kirkman was asked about the crossover, and came out with some incredible news after constantly denying the rumor: The crossover is happening
All joking aside, I’m really excited. I get that question all the time. I think that we’ve finally gotten to a place with Fear the Walking Dead where it has its own identify…there are two Walking Deadshows, I’m not going to name them, but there are two…There is one haracter that is going to go from one show that will go from one show and appear in the other show, that I will not name. Are we going to see a Walking Deadcharacter’s backstory play out in Fear the Walking Dead? “”Or are we going to see a Fear the Walking Deadcharacter show up in The Walking Dead? What could happen? Or is it going to be different than that?”
One of the main reasons the crossover seemed unlikely is that one takes place in and around Atlanta while the other is in California. Fear also takes place before The Walking Dead and is closer to the outbreak’s origin. The back story admittedly doesn’t make too much sense. If a character from The Walking Dead has his/her story told in relation to Fear, why hasn’t it been mentioned before? They would have to introduce a new character in order to have this tie-in makes sense. Think about it. Don’t you think the character who already went through this years earlier would have at some point been like “Hey, by the way…”?
The character back story can’t be the other way around, as this would put them back in time. It does fit that they would do it now considering Fear the Walking Dead is wrapping its third season in two weeks. It has been around a while with a solid following, and they couldn’t just introduce Fear then immediately have a crossover with the most popular show on TV.
My theory is that it will focus on Jerry, the jovial bodyguard in the Kingdom with Ezekiel. Here’s how it could make sense. He’s of Samoan descent, so it would make sense proximity wise that he would end up in California. Also, nothing is known of his origin prior to the incidents on The Walking Dead. Jerry is a fan favorite character, and I find it hysterical that he never seems to be taking the apocalypse seriously. It would be an interesting twist to see how jubilant Jerry lived life prior to the world ended.
I can see it now. Something terrible happens to him as part of the outbreak in California, and he escapes to the Atlanta area. His jovial nature is a defense mechanism for the terrible events that happened to him, and somehow he breaks. He ends up telling someone what happens, and we’re treated to a flash back episode depicting the events. It’s almost too easy and pretty much writes itself.
There are other options, but I think I like this one the best. What’s your guess? Let us know below.
